Small Thoughts

On Thursdays my class has computers (or ICT if you wish) with the computer teacher. I stay with my class during this time to help out, answer questions, etc.

So today the computer teacher was showing them around a website they have never been to before: www.show.me.uk He was explaining the different parts of the side menu to them when one of my kids put up his hand and asked "But if I click where it says 'TEACHERS' will I see a picture of Miss Going Somewhere?"

Hee hee....kids.

Blonde Thoughts

Tonight I had another startling peek through the window of my mind and into my thought processes.

In Italy, our garbage is separated into four different piles: wet (organic), dry, plastic/metal/glass, and paper. Earlier today I cleaned out my shelf in the fridge and threw out some old veggies that were still wrapped in the plastic baggies from the supermarket. Of course, I threw them into the wet garbage bin without taking them out of the plastic bags. My roommate saw this and told me I had to take the veggies OUT of the plastic bags before throwing them away, and then proceeded to remove the plastic baggies himself.

My logic: The bag which holds the wet garbage is made of plastic, therefore I can put plastic bags in the wet garbage.

Sounds reasonable to me....

Apparently This Is What Happens In Canada

It seems that my heritage has inspired some of my students in interesting ways.....

Adventure in Canada
The airplane landed safely at the Toronto airport. The teacher and children were very excited to have arrived. They took a sled with huskies to find a moose. In the forest the children found a herd of moose. They shot one of the moose and ate it. It was a good adventure.
Really, I am just at a loss for words.

September & November 2003

I'm on a roll!

But with the way I work, if I don't do it all at once, it will never get done. Have you any idea how many unfinished projects I have laying around in boxes somewhere?

Besides it is kinda fun to relive all those memories and see how things have changed. I sure was fresh off the boat back then!

August 2003

One month down, 15 more to go! Wish me luck!!!

Back-Post Ambition

One of my regrets with this blog is that I didn't start it sooner. There is a whole year and a half of my travel bug life that has, as yet, gone unchronicled. But I hope to change that.

Over the summer I found out that one of my best friends, Jen, and my mom have saved every e-mail I sent them since leaving Canada for the Dominican Republic on August 11, 2003. With their permission, I went through all the e-mails and forwarded them to myself with the intention of someday back-posting all my mishaps onto my blog.

Now that I have the internet and a few days of holiday from school, I am going to take the plunge and begin back-posting. I am planning to alter the dates to reflect real time, so check the side bar for updates. Once I finish an entire month of back-posts, then I will do a current post with a link to that month.

Happy reading! Some of the stories are pretty amusing, if I do say so myself.

Little Black Cloud

My bad luck with electronic devices continues (for those of you who remember such exciting adventures as The Washing Machine Disaster, Blender Burnout, and Girl Blows Fuse and Wireless Router Adaptor in Electrical Meltdown, etc).

Two and a half weeks ago I bought a new cell phone; not that there was anything at all remotely wrong with my old cell phone. I just wanted a cute, new flippy cell phone and one day while I was at an electronics store looking for a toaster oven (my aren't we domestic???) I saw the prefect phone, on sale (double bonus)! The sale/bonus was that it came with a free cordless phone for the house. So I thought, '2 phones for the price of one aint' bad!' and I bought it.

OF COURSE there is a problem with my new cell phone. It wouldn't read the SIM card right away, and kept dropping the signal even though it was at full strength. I finally found a way to get back to the store (it is out of town and too far to go by bike) to try and exchange it, but it was past the 8 day store return policy so they told me I had to take the phone to the company's service centre, which I did on Monday.

When I took the phone in, they said it would be ready for today and to call in the afternoon. I just called them, expecting it to be ready and to go pick it up. I was super excited to have my phone back too because while my phone is being repaired, Enzo lent me one of his old cell phones, which my friend Melanie has lovingly nicknamed "dinosaur phone."

Anyways, when I called the woman told me that there is something wrong with the 'scheda elettronica' (electronic card) of my phone and that it won't be ready until the middle of next week.

Why am I not surprised?!?!?
